The retrial of Michel Platini and Sepp Blatter on charges of financial misconduct began on Monday, with law enforcement already set on the desired punishment for the accused.

Details: The Swiss prosecutor leading the case against Blatter and Platini for fraud has requested suspended sentences of 20 months for the former heads of FIFA and UEFA. Prosecutor Thomas Hildbrand did not seek imprisonment but also does not consider them innocent in principle.

The prosecution also rejects the Swiss Attorney General's accusations of political motivations in the case. Notably, FIFA has joined the prosecutor's appeal but is not directly represented in the case.

Reminder: The investigation accuses Blatter of paying Platini two million dollars in 2011 for purported work Platini did for Blatter in 1998.
