The world's top-ranked player, Iga Świątek, made a confident start at the Masters series tournament in Madrid.

In the round of 32 match, the Polish tennis player defeated China's representative Wang Xiyu, who holds the 52nd position in the WTA rankings.

Świątek capitalized on three break points in the first set and claimed it 6-1. In the second set, the athletes exchanged games won on each other's serves, but in the decisive moment, Świątek forced the Chinese player to make a second error on her serve and took the upper hand with a 6-4 victory.

In the round of 16, Świątek will face 34-year-old Romanian tennis player Sorana Cirstea, who holds the 30th position in the world rankings.
