Swedish skier confessed to frostbite on intimate areas during the race.
The sub-zero temperature in Ruka, northern Finland, had a detrimental impact on Swedish skier Calle Halfvarsson, according to Reuters.
On Sunday, November 26, a 20 km race took place. At the start of the competition, the temperature dropped to -15 degrees Celsius (5 degrees Fahrenheit). Due to these extreme conditions, Swedish skier Calle Halfvarsson experienced numbness in intimate areas.
"I genuinely frostbit my penis - I had to lay there for ten minutes to warm it up. It's a good thing my second child is on the way because in the future, it will be tough if I continue in the same spirit," said Halfvarsson.
It's worth noting that the 34-year-old athlete crossed the finish line in 18th place and quickly headed to the tent where athletes were warming up. The temperature in Ruka remains hazardous for male athletes as their thin clothing and padding provide minimal protection against the cold.
