Ukrainian tennis player Elina Svitolina has reached the quarter-finals of Wimbledon 2024.

In her round of 16 match, the 21st-ranked player in the world altered the mandatory white dress code of the tournament by wearing a black mourning ribbon on her attire. This was her response to today’s massive missile strike by Russia on Ukraine, which resulted in the injury of children at the Ohmatdyt hospital. In Kyiv alone, 22 people were killed, and 10 more became victims of terror in Kryvyi Rih.

Svitolina played an incredibly powerful match, leaving no chance for China's Wang Xinyu. The Ukrainian won the first set 6-2, and in the second set, she conceded only one game to her opponent.

This marks Svitolina's third appearance in the Wimbledon quarter-finals in her career.

Her next opponent in the match on July 10th will be Kazakhstan's Elena Rybakina.
