World number five Daniil Medvedev surprised fans with his absence from preparatory tournaments in Australia ahead of the Australian Open. The reason for his disappearance turned out to be joyful news: the athlete welcomed his second child, as he announced on Instagram.
Medvedev shared a photo of himself sitting in a hospital room with his older daughter while holding the newborn. He captioned the image with New Year’s greetings for 2025.
However, he provided no details about the baby's gender or name. In fact, it was not publicly known that his wife, Daria, was even pregnant.
It’s worth noting that Medvedev also skipped preparatory tournaments in Australia last year, which didn’t stop him from reaching the final of the Australian Open.
Throughout his career, Daniil Medvedev has won 20 ATP titles, including one Grand Slam victory at the US Open in 2021. In 2022, he also held the world number one spot in the ATP rankings.
