Surpassing Major Competitors, Tanzania Mainland Premier League Climbs to Fourth in Africa
The Tanzanian Premier League is ranked fourth in Africa according to the 2024 International Federation of Football History & Statistics (IFFHS) rankings, with 266.75 points, it's ahead of the south african premier league (PSL), the nigerian professional football league and the ghana premier league, placing it 57th in world.
The achievements of Simba SC and Young Africans reflect this Tanzanian success, with Simba in particular having performed exceptionally well in CAF inter club competitions, having made great strides in the CAF Confederation Cup and numerous trips to the quarter finals of the CAF Champions League, in addition to the achievements of Young Africans, who have advanced to the quarter-finals and won a CAF Confederation Cup medal.
The rise of the tanzanian league is an indication of successful youth development initiatives, with tanzanian clubs improving their facilities and developing local talent, which's raising the standard of football as whole. As a result of the new approaches brought in by local and foreign coaches, the standards of coaching are also increasing, leading to a more structured and tactical style of play.
Tanzania’s status as one of the best football nations in africa has been reinforced by these impressive achievements, which have earned it the right to send four teams to regional tournaments.
