SuperSport & Cape Town City Stumble in Relegation Battle Stalemate
SuperSport United and Cape Town City played out a goalless draw at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium on Sunday night, leaving both teams stuck in a relegation fight.
Desperate for Points in a Tough Season
SuperSport remain 15th in the Betway Premiership with 22 points, just two ahead of bottom-placed City, who have played two extra games. With fewer than 10 matches left, both teams face a tough battle to avoid the drop.
New Coaches, Same Struggles
Both teams recently have new coaches after firing Muhsin Ertugral (City) and Gavin Hunt (SuperSport). Both interim manager Andre Arendse and new City coach Diogo Peral were hoping for a new beginning, but in a cautious match, their teams were unable to score.
SuperSport created the better chances, with Lebohang Maboe missing two golden opportunities from Christian Saile’s crosses. Maboe forced a strong save from Darren Keet in the second half, but his finishing woes summed up the night for Matsatsantsa.
City struggled offensively, rarely troubling Ricardo Goss, although late pressure from Thulani Serero kept the SuperSport defense alert.
Arendse Eyes Permanent Role
Arendse is keen to demonstrate his abilities once more after serving as interim manager in 2022. His side made progress, especially with the help of Siphesihle Ndlovu, who had a significant impact on both offense and defense.
