Super Eagles Threaten Training Boycott Over Unpaid AFCON Bonuses
Tension has hit the Super Eagles camp at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations as players threaten to skip training and delay their flight to Marrakech over unpaid bonuses. The issue comes days before Nigeria’s quarter-final clash with Algeria.
Journalist Oluwashina Okeleji reports that players and officials are yet to receive win bonuses for four victories, against Tanzania, Tunisia, Uganda and a 4-0 round-of-16 win over Mozambique. He said the squad has warned that training and travel will be halted unless payments are made.
Nigeria topped their group and reached the last eight, but similar bonus disputes previously disrupted World Cup qualifiers. The NFF has not commented, raising concerns ahead of Saturday’s crucial match. All eyes remain on federation officials.
