Sundowns Secure Bafana Bafana Star Lebo Mothiba in High-Stakes Transfer Move

In move that could strengthen their chances of winning the title and qualifying for the continental tournament Mamelodi Sundowns have formally signed Bafana Bafana attacker Lebo Mothiba for the duration of the 2024 –25 Betway Premiership season.

Mothiba’s Return, Tactical Boost for Sundowns

After parting ways with RSC Strasbourg in May 2024, the 29 year old striker's been without club but has now returned to South Africa to revive his career. As they look to dominate both domestic and international events, Sundowns who're presently vying for 8th consecutive league title, view Mothiba as crucial addition to their attack.

Sundowns head coach Miguel Cardoso was impressed by Mothiba during training sessions leading to the club offering him short term contract with option to extend.

“This's my home and this's where it all began for me. I'm so grateful to be here and I can’t wait to get started” Mothiba said in club statement.

Sundowns' Transfer Strategy

Mothiba joins list of recent Sundowns signings including Jayden Adams, Lucas Suárez, Keanu Cupido and the return of Matias Esquivel from his loan spell in Argentina. The squad reinforcements highlight Sundowns’ ambition to not only clinch the league title but also compete strongly in the CAF Champions League and the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup.

Mothiba will have to contend for starting position because Sundowns' striking department already has Peter Shalulile, Iqraam Rayners, Lucas Ribeiro Costa and Arthur Sales, but Sundowns might get new offensive dimension from his physical presence, hold up play and finishing skills.

Key Upcoming Fixtures for Sundowns

Mothiba’s signing comes at critical time as Sundowns gear up for:

• CAF Champions League knockout rounds against Esperance
• Crucial Betway Premiership clashes with Golden Arrows, AmaZulu and Orlando Pirates
• The Nedbank Cup quarter finals

Fans of Sundowns will be hoping that Mothiba gets back to his best swiftly and scores goals that could change the outcome during this crucial time.
