The FIFA Club World Cup trophy was welcomed to South Africa by Mamelodi Sundowns FC during a special visit.

Sundowns players and legends joined FIFA legend Alessandro Nesta at Mamelodi High School to display the trophy. The group commemorated its 55th anniversary with cheers from more than 1,000 pupils.

In highlighting the tournament's significance, Sundowns Chairman Tlhopie Motsepe referred to it as a “celebration of hope, pride, and excellence.”

Sammy Marks Square in Pretoria later had a display of the trophy that drew close to 1,900 spectators. With Lucas Ribeiro scoring twice as Sundowns defeated Orlando Pirates 4-1, the action didn't stop.

The club will compete in Group F at the FIFA Club World Cup, facing Ulsan HD (South Korea), Borussia Dortmund (Germany), and Fluminense (Brazil).

Just for participating, Sundowns will earn R900 million, more than double their estimated club value. A deep run in the tournament could push earnings beyond R1 billion.

Meanwhile, Sundowns versatile player Aubrey Modiba is relishing a demanding football schedule. He sees the next CAF Champions League, FIFA World Cup qualifiers, and AFCON as opportunities to establish himself on a worldwide platform.

South Africa's national squad, Bafana Bafana, is also getting ready for vital World Cup qualifiers against Benin and Lesotho in March.
