Summer raid thwarted! Twente blocked Barcelona's late swoop for Ruud Nijstad
Barcelona came knocking at the very end of the summer, but the Dutch talent chose loyalty over Camp Nou.
Details: According to Dutch outlet Voetbal International, Barcelona made a serious late attempt to sign promising FC Twente defender Ruud Nijstad in the closing stages of the summer transfer window. The 18-year-old talent confirmed that direct contacts took place between both clubs, but the Dutch side categorically refused to sanction his departure.
Following Twente's firm refusal, Nijstad decided to remain in Enschede and focus on his personal growth, putting pen to paper on a fresh contract extension to ensure regular development in familiar surroundings.
The Catalan giants have heavily focused on scouting top European youth prospects to build long-term stability in their defensive ranks, but will now have to monitor Nijstad's trajectory from afar.
It is worth noting that according to Transfermarkt, the 18-year-old Dutch defender's current market value stands at €10 million.
