Strong gesture! Ex-wife visits Michail Antonio in hospital after car crash
West Ham striker Michail Antonio was involved in a serious car accident on Saturday, sustaining a leg fracture. Offering her support during this tough time, Antonio's ex-wife Debbie Whittle made the journey to visit him in hospital, The Sun reports.
Antonio is currently receiving treatment at a London hospital following surgery. Upon hearing the news of her former husband’s accident, Debbie immediately decided to visit him. This was a remarkable act, especially considering the couple’s divorce and the fact that Debbie resides in Manchester—a trip to the capital takes around four hours.
The pair divorced in 2020 after nearly a decade of being together since 2011. During their marriage, they welcomed four children, the youngest born shortly before their split.
Antonio’s car was reportedly almost completely destroyed in the crash. Rescue teams spent about an hour freeing the footballer from the wreckage.
It remains unclear how soon Antonio will be able to return to the pitch.
The Jamaican international has been a West Ham player since 2015, making 323 appearances and scoring 83 goals. He played a key role in the club’s UEFA Europa Conference League triumph in 2023.
