Stellenbosch FC defeated Angola's Desportivo Lunda Sul 2-0 in their CAF Confederation Cup Group B match on Sunday at Loftus Versfeld Stadium. The win, their second in a row against Lunda Sul, moves Stellenbosch to second position in the group with six points, three behind leaders RS Berkane.

In the second half, Stellenbosch came to life after a dull first half with little opportunities. Four minutes after the restart, Andre De Jong broke the tie by scoring from close range after taking advantage of defensive mistakes. Shortly after, the New Zealander calmly converted a penalty to double the lead and complete the victory.

Despite playing far from their Cape Town home due to the lack of a CAF-approved stadium, Stellenbosch showed resilience. The empty stands at Loftus Versfeld robbed the match of the vibrant atmosphere typically associated with African football nights, underscoring the need for improved infrastructure.

Following this win, Stellenbosch continues to vie for a place in the knockout stages, demonstrating perseverance and resolve. They will now shift their focus to domestic competition, where they will take on Kaizer Chiefs in an important league matchup as they strive to keep their momentum on both fronts.
