Bundesliga stadiums found themselves unprepared for such a heavy onslaught of snow and ice.
Details: Today, the official social media pages of St. Pauli and Leipzig on X announced that tomorrow's Bundesliga Matchday 16 clash between the two sides has been officially postponed due to a significant accumulation of snow and ice at the Millerntor-Stadion, where the game was scheduled to be played.
Organizers and stadium officials have stated they simply won't be able to clear the snow and ice in time to make the pitch suitable for football.
The German Football Association is expected to announce a new date for the fixture in the near future.
Additionally, several other Bundesliga fixtures are under threat of postponement: Werder vs Hoffenheim and Union Berlin vs Mainz.
While in Bremen there is still confidence that tomorrow's match will take place as scheduled, Union Berlin has called on its supporters to lend a hand and help clear the snow themselves, as this is the only way the match against Mainz has a chance of going ahead.
Over the past few days, severe weather has battered Germany: heavy snowstorms and freezing temperatures have rendered many stadiums—both amateur and professional—unplayable.
Further updates on fixture changes and new dates will be published later on the official website of the German Football Association.
