Sports Minister McKenzie Denies South Africa Confirmed as 2026 WAFCON Host
South Africa’s Minister of Sport, Gayton McKenzie, has firmly dismissed reports claiming that the country has been confirmed as the new host of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
In an official statement released on Monday and signed by the minister, the South African government clarified that no such confirmation has been made. According to the statement, South Africa has only indicated its willingness to support the Confederation of African Football (CAF) if alternative hosting arrangements become necessary.
“At this stage, no formal decision has been taken to relocate the tournament, and Morocco remains the officially designated host of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations,” the statement emphasised. CAF, the ministry added, has not triggered any alternative hosting process.
