Sporting appoints Rui Borges as new head coach
Following the departure of Rúben Amorim, Sporting Lisbon has been in a state of crisis, and today the club has announced its new head coach.
Details: The Portuguese champions have officially confirmed Rui Borges as their new head coach. Borges joins from Vitória Guimarães.
The compensation amount paid by Sporting remains undisclosed.
After Amorim’s departure, Sporting was temporarily led by João Pereira, who previously coached the club’s youth team. However, Pereira was dismissed today to make way for Borges.
Interestingly, Borges will debut as Sporting's head coach in a match against their main rival for the league title, Benfica, who currently tops the Primeira Liga standings.
Reminder: Earlier this month, Sporting suffered three consecutive defeats for the first time since 2019.
