Sport Recife announced on Monday the dismissal of executive director André Figueiredo, following a 4–0 thrashing at the hands of Cruzeiro in the eighth round of the Brazilian Championship. The club confirmed the decision through a social media statement, according to No Ataque, framing it as a mutual agreement after a joint evaluation of the football department’s direction.

“The football department of Sport Club do Recife officially announces the departure of executive director André Figueiredo,” the statement read. “The decision comes after a mutual assessment of the current moment and the future of the department.”

Figueiredo joined Sport in February 2024. Prior to that, he worked with the youth setups at Atlético Mineiro and Corinthians. His departure follows the recent sacking of coach Pepa Miguel, formerly of Cruzeiro. The Portuguese manager was replaced by António Oliveira, who made his debut in the loss to his former club.

Sport remains bottom of the league with just two points, and the move underscores the club’s desperation to stop a downward spiral early in the season.
