Spain's Jenni Hermoso testifies in court about controversial kiss from federation chief
Spanish national team star Jenni Hermoso appeared in court today to testify in the sexual assault case against former Spanish Football Federation president Luis Rubiales. Speaking before the court, Hermoso stated that his forced kiss ruined one of the happiest days of her life, reports Daily Mail.
The controversial incident took place during the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup trophy ceremony, after Spain’s historic victory. During the celebrations, Rubiales grabbed Hermoso and kissed her on the lips without her consent.
Although Rubiales later attempted to downplay the act as a spontaneous and emotional moment that caused no harm, the incident sparked international outrage.
"Yes, I felt very little respect. Luis Rubiales never asked if I wanted a kiss before he kissed me. It was a moment that stained one of the happiest days of my life," Hermoso told the court.
She also revealed that she had been pressured to publicly state that the kiss had been voluntary.
If found guilty of sexual assault and coercion, Rubiales faces a prison sentence ranging from one to one and a half years.
