Spain has developed a new protocol to deal with racism during matches
The fight against racism in Spain is gaining new momentum on the back of Vinícius Júnior's statements. The local federation together with La Liga has developed a new protocol to combat this shameful phenomenon during matches.
According to the press service of the Royal Federation, the main responsibility during games falls on the referee. If he himself sees manifestations of racism or he is informed about it by officials, he will be obliged to show a special gesture and suspend the game.
An announcement will be made over the loudspeaker about the reasons for the suspension, and if the racist behaviour is not stopped, then the game will be suspended completely.
If the game is resumed but discriminatory behaviour occurs again, then the referee will again suspend the match and send the teams to the changing rooms with the stadium announcer informing them accordingly.
However, there is a protocol that, in consultation with the Safety Officer and club representatives, in the event of repeated racist behaviour, the referee must permanently suspend the game.
