South Africa: Sekhukhune United’s Coach Seema Reflects on 2024 League Campaign

Sekhukhune United head coach Lehlohonolo Seema has expressed satisfaction with his team’s performance in 2024, though he admits they initially aimed for a higher league position. Babina Noko currently sits fourth in the standings with 16 points after nine matches, following a crucial 1-0 victory over Marumo Gallants.

Keletso Makgalwa, one of Upington City's notable recruits, has contributed significantly to the team's success, scoring another vital goal to round off an amazing first season. The win represented back-to-back triumphs, indicating a great turnaround from a difficult start that featured defeats to Royal AM, TS Galaxy and Mamelodi Sundowns.

Reflecting on their progress with iDiski Times, Seema said, “We always aim higher. I thought we’d be in a better position, but we recovered quickly. After nine games, if you asked me if I’d take 16 points, I wouldn’t have been sure, but here we are. Credit to the players, management, and our supporters who’ve stood by us.”

Seema also thanked the strong support from the club’s leaders, including Chairman Mr. Malatji and CEO Jonas, as well as the fans and media for their ongoing encouragement.

As Sekhukhune United prepares for 2025, their focus is on the Nedbank Cup and league matches after their early exit from the CAF Confederation Cup. Seema is careful about making long-term plans at this stage.

“In January, we have many games and a lot of travel. Maybe after that, we can discuss our goals for the season,” he said. “It’s still too early to make predictions after only nine league games.”

With fresh confidence and a supportive team, Sekhukhune United hopes to strengthen their foundation and aim for bigger successes in the year ahead.
