The President of the South African Football Association (SAFA), Danny Jordaan, has sent a warm message of support to the Super Eagles ahead of their crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup African Playoff final against the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Nigeria, coached by Eric Chelle, will face DR Congo on Sunday at the Prince Héritier Moulay El Hassan Sports Complex in Rabat, Morocco. The winner will move on to the intercontinental playoffs scheduled for March 2026, the final hurdle toward World Cup qualification.

In a video shared on SAFA’s official X account, Jordaan reflected on Nigeria’s difficult qualifying journey and praised their ability to perform under pressure.

Nigeria was in our group, it was a tight group, very stressful. I want to wish Nigeria the best in their match against the Democratic Republic of Congo.

He also extended personal goodwill to key Nigerian football officials, adding, “To Amaju Pinnick my friend, and the president of the NFF, Ibrahim Gusau, I wish them the best.”

Jordaan highlighted the strength of Nigeria’s squad, describing the Super Eagles as one of Africa’s elite teams. "Nigeria is a big team. They have players who are among the best in the world, and I hope they will play true to their form and ability…” he said.

Nigeria advanced to the final after a convincing 4-1 win over Gabon in the semi-final, while DR Congo reached the last stage by defeating Cameroon 1-0. The upcoming clash promises high stakes and intense competition as both sides fight for a World Cup lifeline.
