"Some idiots still judge me". Owen remembers his move to Manchester United

English football legend, Michael Owen, recalled how he once moved to Manchester United.

In a comment to the Liverpool Echo, he admitted that many still criticize him for this decision.

"Some idiots still criticize me for playing at Manchester United, but that happens very rarely. Usually it's some weird people on Twitter or other social media.

Personally, it seems to me that any adequate person or anyone to whom I explained this decision for more than two minutes will understand me. If I could, I would walk back to Liverpool from Newcastle!

I had conversations with Steven Gerrard and Jamie Carragher and asked them to tell Rafa Benitez that I was free! I spoke about this several times after leaving Liverpool. People who know all the details of this story remember how everything developed then. They knew that I had always wanted to return to Liverpool throughout my career because it was my team. But the coach did not need me, since Fernando Torres appeared at the club, and then, after his departure, Luis Suárez.

Ultimately, playing football is my job and I had to stay on top of my game. “Manchester United was by far the best option”, - Owen said.
