Somalia Referee Omar Artan Arrives in Salzburg Ahead of UEFA Super Cup
Somalia's Omar Artan has arrived in Salzburg, Austria, ahead of the UEFA Super Cup clash between Paris Saint-Germain and Aston Villa.
The 34-year-old referee has been handed the high-profile appointment by UEFA, making history as he prepares to become the first non-European referee to officiate the UEFA Super Cup.
Artan's appointment comes just days after he was reportedly prevented from taking part in the tournament, making his selection for the Super Cup an important moment for both the referee and African football.
The Somali official will take charge of the meeting between Paris Saint-Germain and Aston Villa on Wednesday. Artan will not be the only African official involved in the fixture.
He will be assisted by Liban Abdoulrazack Ahmed of Djibouti and Stephen Eleazar Onyango Yiembe of Kenya
