Manchester City hosted Arsenal in the headline match of the 5th round of the Premier League.

In added time of the first half, the referee, Michael Oliver, decided to show a second yellow card to Arsenal's Leandro Trossard. In the incident, Trossard pushed a City player from behind, which led to his second booking.

The Premier League explained that the Belgian was "delaying the restart of the match."

This decision has sparked significant debate online, with many fans calling Oliver's decision "stupid."

Some of the reactions included:

"Wait, wtf? Trossard was sent off for kicking the ball away? You must be joking. This is an incredibly stupid decision, but it's what we've come to expect from the refs."

"Trossard may have made a silly move kicking the ball, but considering the state of the game and how fast everything was happening, it was a minor mistake, and he definitely didn’t deserve a red for it. The game’s been ruined - Michael Oliver can fu*k off!"

"I can't believe it. In the last game, we had a player sent off for a dumb decision, and in this one, the refs didn't give Doku a card for kicking the ball, but handed a yellow for a slight tug on the shirt. How is this guy still refereeing these games? It's unbelievably dumb!"

“Though it was a stupid yellow card, Trossard needs to realize that Rice got sent off for less. Don't give these idiots at @FA_PGMOL a chance.”
