Skepticism grows around Mbappé's injury. Jérôme Rothen hints at 'special treatment'
Kylian Mbappé has returned to Real Madrid after leaving the French national team due to an ankle injury sustained in the match against Ukraine, which ended in a resounding 4-0 victory.
This is already the second consecutive international break where the 26-year-old forward has withdrawn early because of injury, and not everyone believes it's just an unfortunate coincidence. Former France midfielder Jérôme Rothen voiced his discontent live on RMC Sport, pointing out that the star's behavior raises questions.
According to Rothen, by the 80th minute with the score at 4-0, many were already anticipating an incident that would allow Mbappé to stop playing. He emphasized that the captain certainly deserves respect and careful management, but there are other players in the squad who play just as many matches and endure similar workloads—yet they still have to fly to Baku for the game, even if they'd prefer to rest.
It's worth recalling that, due to his injury, the French captain will miss the final World Cup qualifying match against Azerbaijan. The result of this fixture is irrelevant for Les Bleus, as they've already secured top spot and a place in the tournament finals.
