Simeone’s Transfer Wish Hits Roadblock Over Tottenham’s Demands
Diego Simeone’s hopes of bringing Cristian “Cuti” Romero to Atlético Madrid might be more difficult than expected, with Tottenham standing firm on their valuation. The Argentine manager, who has built Atlético in his image over the past decade, reportedly views Romero as a top target to reinforce his team’s defensive structure. As reported by Diario Gol, Simeone even contacted the Argentine defender directly to express his desire to bring him to LaLiga.
Despite the interest, negotiations are likely to be tough. Tottenham, notorious for their hardline stance in transfer talks, spent €50 million on Romero in 2021 and are unlikely to accept a lower fee. According to Sky Sports, the London club could demand as much as €80 million, a figure that would be difficult for Atlético to meet. Romero is reportedly open to the move, but with his contract running until 2027 and a current market value near €55 million, the deal will be anything but straightforward. Whether Atlético can convince Spurs to part with their star defender remains to be seen.
