Sifan Hassan is the person of the day at the Olympics according to Dailysports
Today, on August 11th, the final day of competition at the 2024 Paris Olympics took place. While the day primarily featured final matches in team sports, a moment in track and field this morning stood out as particularly noteworthy.
Sifan Hassan won the marathon and set several incredible records. The Dutch athlete completed the 42 km distance in 2 hours, 22 minutes, and 55 seconds, not only achieving the best time in this race but also setting a new Olympic record. Remarkably, this was Hassan’s third medal at the Paris Games, having previously won two bronzes in the 5,000 and 10,000-meter events.
Additionally, Hassan achieved a unique milestone with her marathon victory. She became the first athlete in history to win Olympic medals in the 1500 meters (bronze in Tokyo 2020), 5000 meters (gold in Tokyo, bronze in Paris), 10,000 meters (gold in Tokyo, bronze in Paris), and the marathon (gold in Paris). This accomplishment has never been achieved by either women or men.
As a reminder, the Paris Olympics conclude today, August 11th, with the closing ceremony set to begin at 9:00 PM Central European Time.
