Shocking statement. Max Verstappen could leave Formula 1 as soon as 2026
Four-time world champion Max Verstappen could sensationally end his Formula 1 career as early as the end of the 2026 season. The Dutch Red Bull Racing driver admitted he is seriously considering his future amid growing frustration with the way things are going in the championship.
After a disappointing performance at the Japanese Grand Prix, where he finished only eighth, Verstappen openly stated that he has lost the enjoyment he once felt from racing. According to him, the packed race calendar and ongoing regulation changes are forcing him to rethink his priorities.
I think about everything that's happening in the paddock. Sometimes you ask yourself— is it really worth it, or would it be better to spend more time with family and friends? I want to enjoy racing, but right now it's just not the same. I love working with the team—it's like a family—but when I get behind the wheel, it just doesn't bring the same emotions anymore,
the driver told BBC Sport.
Verstappen has repeatedly criticized the modern trends in Formula 1, including the new technical regulations. Previously, he compared current cars to Mario Kart and labeled them "anti-racing," hinting at the loss of the classic competitive spirit.
No final decision has been made yet, but the very fact of such statements is causing serious concern in the world of Formula 1. Verstappen's potential departure could become one of the most high-profile events in modern motorsport.
