Shocking! Italy legend could make sensational national team return
Jorginho could be handed an unexpected new chapter with the Italy national team.
Details: According to ESPN Brasil, 34-year-old Flamengo midfielder Jorginho has been included on Italy's preliminary squad list for the upcoming international break and could return to the Azzurri after more than two years away. The information was also confirmed by Brazilian outlet ge.
Jorginho's inclusion does not yet guarantee a place in the final squad, but it puts the experienced midfielder firmly back in contention under Roberto Mancini. The coach officially returned to the Italy job at the end of July, beginning his second spell in charge after previously leading the Azzurri from 2018 to 2023.
The reunion would carry special significance. Jorginho enjoyed the most successful period of his international career under Mancini and was one of the central figures in Italy's triumphant EURO 2020 campaign. The Azzurri are now preparing for their upcoming UEFA Nations League fixtures against Belgium, Turkiye and France.
It is worth noting that Jorginho has not represented Italy since EURO 2024. The Brazilian-born midfielder has collected 57 senior caps for the Azzurri and is a European champion. At club level, he currently plays for Flamengo and has recorded 20 appearances, two goals and two assists in the 2026 Brazilian Serie A season.
