Barcelona could be preparing a sensational protest against football's most prestigious individual awards ceremony.

Details: According to MatchDay Central, Barcelona have reportedly been informed that no player from Spain's World Cup-winning squad has finished in the top two of the 2026 Ballon d'Or rankings. The Catalan club reportedly considers this outcome unfair and is now discussing the possibility of boycotting the ceremony if Real Madrid superstar Kylian Mbappé wins the award.

Barcelona are reportedly particularly unhappy about the potential exclusion of Spain's world champions from the top two, with Lamine Yamal among the leading candidates for the prestigious trophy. However, the alleged voting results have not been officially confirmed, and Barcelona have not publicly announced any decision to boycott the event.

Interestingly, the Catalans could follow the example of their biggest rivals, Real Madrid. In 2024, the Madrid giants refused to attend the Ballon d'Or ceremony after learning that Vinícius Júnior would not win the award. Manchester City midfielder Rodri eventually received the trophy.

It's worth noting that Spain won the 2026 World Cup after defeating Argentina 1-0 in the final. Meanwhile, the Ballon d'Or ceremony is scheduled for October 26 at the London Palladium, where the final voting results will be officially revealed.
