Shock in Italy! 20-year-old Cagliari striker fights for life after tragic accident
Italian football has been rocked by disturbing news from Sardinia.
Details: 20-year-old Cagliari forward Yael Trepi was rushed to hospital and is currently in the intensive care unit at Santissima Annunziata Hospital in Sassari. The young player nearly drowned while relaxing at a villa pool in Porto Cervo on the Costa Smeralda. According to Italian media, the footballer could not swim and swallowed a significant amount of water.
Rescue teams arrived at the scene promptly, and the Frenchman was airlifted to the medical facility by helicopter. A chest CT scan revealed a substantial accumulation of fluid in his lungs, making breathing extremely difficult. To prevent further suffering and to administer the necessary intensive therapy, doctors placed the athlete into a medically induced coma.
The accident happened just days after a milestone match in the striker's career. On August 14, Trepi started for Cagliari in the first round of the Coppa Italia against Arezzo, marking his ninth appearance at the senior professional level.
It is worth noting that in the 2025/26 season, the French striker played 8 Serie A matches for Cagliari's first team, scoring 1 goal, and featured in 24 matches for the club's Primavera 1 youth squad, netting 11 goals and providing 4 assists. According to Transfermarkt, his current market value is estimated at 2 million euros.
