Two days ago, the new EuroLeague season kicked off, and one of yesterday's fixtures featured a clash between Fenerbahçe and Olympiacos.

The Turkish side secured a victory on home court, defeating their Greek opponents 82-71, but the game was memorable for more than just the result. Near the end of the match, Olympiacos player Shaquielle McKissic got into a verbal altercation with a fan in the stands, resulting in a technical foul for the player, while the spectator was ejected.

Details: With six minutes remaining in the final quarter, as Fenerbahçe players took free throws, McKissic approached the stands and began arguing with a fan. The only thing separating the two was the referee, and Olympiacos teammate Thomas Walkup stepped in to calm McKissic down.

Following the incident, the player was handed a technical foul, and the fan was escorted out of the arena, despite attempts to explain his behavior.

It later emerged that the fan had directed offensive remarks toward McKissic, which the American player refused to tolerate, engaging in a heated exchange.

Quote: "I don’t think fans should be allowed to provoke players in any way or form," McKissic said in an interview with NOVASPORTS after the game.

"Maybe I need to check the rulebook on that. But I was called out by the fan. I’ve been playing in the EuroLeague for six years, and I’ve never been called out like that. It wasn’t racist, but it was very disrespectful. Having played at Panathinaikos for six years, I’ve never been taunted like that."

"I know the head referee, Ilija [Belosevic], and I’m confident he’ll do the right thing [by filing an official complaint with the EuroLeague]," McKissic added.

"But in no world can a fan insult a player on the court with such harsh words. My heart rate is at 168 beats per minute, and you expect me to behave like…

You know, if it happens once, fine. But when it happens two, three, four times, and the referee says nothing…

Come on, you can’t call out a player like that, and then the team gets free throws. It’s ridiculous, honestly."

Reminder: All EuroLeague teams have now played their first game of the new season. Fenerbahçe currently sits in second place, while Olympiacos finds themselves second from the bottom.

McKissic, who hails from the United States, has never played professionally there. He began his career in Italy and has since played for several European clubs, including Gran Canaria and Beşiktaş, as well as spending a year in South Korea.
