Following a horrific incident in which a stray missile from the stands wounded Sétif's player, Salah Bouchama, during the 15th-round encounter between US Biskra and ES Sétif, the Algerian Professional League's Disciplinary Committee imposed severe sanctions. League authorities acted quickly when the stone seriously injured his skull, almost endangering his life.
The 88th-minute incident overshadowed the game, which concluded in a goalless draw. After receiving emergency care, 23-year-old Bouchama returned to the field with his head bandaged. at a forcefully worded statement, the league denounced the crime and emphasized the need to stop the rising violence at stadiums.
US Biskra faces a six-match stadium ban, with three games mandated to be played outside the province, alongside a fan travel restriction for six matches. Additional fines were levied against US Biskra and ES Sétif, with penalties extending to individual players and staff across multiple clubs for various infractions.
In a friendly move, US Biskra fans went to Bouchama’s house to say sorry, making it clear that the person who caused trouble does not speak for all the club’s fans. The league is still working hard to promote peace and keep the true spirit of fair play alive in Algerian football.
