Serie A changes the rules! Clubs learn about new transfer market regulations
Serie A is preparing to change the familiar rules governing the transfer market. The winter transfer window in the Italian top flight will open earlier than usual next season, allowing clubs to begin strengthening their squads significantly sooner.
TODOmercadoWEB reports that the decision to open the transfer window on December 28, 2026, instead of January 2, 2027, is aimed at giving teams more time to work in the mid-season market. Clubs will be able to start negotiations earlier, complete deals and adjust their squads based on the results of the first half of the season.
The change could have a serious impact on the plans of Serie A participants, especially those that suffer injuries to key players or urgently need to strengthen certain positions. The earlier opening of the window will also allow clubs to decide in advance which players they want to sign or release.
Italian football is therefore preparing for a significant overhaul of the familiar transfer calendar. Serie A has decided to change the dates of the winter window, and clubs will now have to adapt their plans to the new rules.
