Sergio Agüero Scores on Senior Debut in Thrilling 3-3 Avellaneda Derby Sergio Agüero Scores on Senior Debut in Thrilling 3-3 Avellaneda Derby

Sergio Agüero made a memorable return to Independiente by scoring a brilliant goal in his senior team debut during a 3-3 draw against Racing in the Avellaneda derby. The match, played Monday night at the Libertadores de América Stadium, marked the former striker’s first appearance with the over-35s side.

Agüero, who retired from professional football in 2021 due to a heart condition, showed flashes of his old brilliance. After Racing took the lead through Gonzalo García, the former Manchester City star dribbled past two defenders and calmly slotted the ball into the far corner to equalize. Ignacio Barcia and Jeremías Caggiano added goals for Independiente, while Gonzalo Bergessio and Hernán Grimaldi were on target for Racing.

After the match, Agüero shared his excitement with reporters: “It was tough on my legs at the end, but I’m happy I finished the match. It’s always special to return here and see old teammates again,” he told Fox Sports. He also hinted that, if he’s in town, fans might see more of him in future senior matches.
