Tennis legend Serena Williams will join the ownership group of the Toronto Tempo women's basketball team, which is set to debut in the WNBA in 2026, reports TMZ.

The club released a special press release explaining the role of the legendary former tennis player. Serena will be involved in developing new club merchandise projects and will also help design game jerseys.

Williams also posted a special video on her page dedicated to her joining the Toronto Tempo.

"Serena Williams is an icon, a role model and a force for change in the world. She's earned every bit of her incredible success with hard work, tenacity and determination in the face of countless challenges. She exemplifies the very best of what the Tempo stand for - we couldn't be more honoured to have Serena in our court," said one of the Toronto Tempo co-owners, Larry Tanenbaum.

It should be noted that it was Tanenbaum, who is the chairman of Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment, who helped bring Tempo to Toronto in May 2024, when the city was granted the right to expand by the league.
