Williams revealed that this collaboration had actually been in the works for years. She shared that Lamar’s team had reached out to her long ago, expressing interest in doing something together after being particularly impressed by her Crip Walk celebration following her victory at the 2012 Olympics.
Serena noted that when the opportunity arose to dance at the Super Bowl, she was thrilled. She admitted that she simply couldn’t turn down such an offer and quickly agreed to take part.
It’s worth mentioning that the Crip Walk is a well-known part of Los Angeles culture, particularly in Compton—the hometown of both Serena and Lamar. This shared background suggests they found common ground, which ultimately led to their creative collaboration.
