Sunderland have advanced to the fourth round of the FA Cup. On January 10, the Black Cats defeated Everton in Liverpool.

Le Fee opened the scoring midway through the first half, but Garner converted a penalty in the 89th minute to send the match into extra time. Another thirty minutes couldn't separate the sides, and in the penalty shootout, visiting goalkeeper Robin Roefs emerged as the hero. The 22-year-old keeper stopped all three attempts from Garner, Barry, and Beto, while his teammates were flawless from the spot.

Everton made history as only the second Premier League side to lose an FA Cup penalty shootout without scoring a single spot-kick, matching Blackburn's unfortunate feat against Sunderland back in February 2003.

It's worth noting that Roefs joined Sunderland last summer from NEC Nijmegen and immediately secured the starting spot. In the Premier League, he has featured in 21 matches, keeping a clean sheet in a third of them.
