Sporting director Deco reportedly has first-hand information about the Brazilian's circumstances, while the Catalan club continue to monitor how his role develops under Xabi Alonso.
The main issue surrounding Estevao is his lack of Premier League playing time. The 19-year-old has managed only 23 minutes across Chelsea's first five league matches of the season under Alonso and has not started a Premier League game. Reports suggest that such a limited role has caused frustration for the highly rated winger.
For now, Barcelona's interest remains at the monitoring stage. There is no indication in the report that the Catalans have opened negotiations with Chelsea or submitted an offer. However, Deco is following developments closely as Barcelona assess whether the player's situation at Stamford Bridge could eventually create an opportunity.
It is worth noting that Chelsea's official statistics currently credit Estevao with eight appearances, 245 minutes and one goal in all competitions this season. In the Premier League, the Brazilian has made four appearances, all from the bench, and accumulated a total of 23 minutes.
