A major upset occurred in one of the final matches of the day at Roland Garros.
Greek tennis player Maria Sakkari, ranked seventh in the WTA standings, exited the tournament in the first round. She was defeated by Varvara Gracheva, the world's 88th-ranked player representing France.
Sakkari won the first set with confidence, breaking Gracheva's serve three times to claim it 6:3. However, the French player prevailed in the next two sets. In the second set, Gracheva converted a crucial break point to win 6:4, and the third set concluded with her victory at 6:3.
In the next round, Gracheva will face American Bernarda Pera, ranked 80th in the world.
