Senegal’s 2026 World Cup Kit Features One Star Amid AFCON 2025 Controversy
Senegal national football team will head into the 2026 World Cup with a jersey that carries only one star, following the controversy surrounding the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) title.
Kit manufacturer Puma unveiled Senegal’s new shirts on Friday, with the design reflecting just a single star—representing the country’s 2021 AFCON triumph. The absence of a second star, which would have marked the 2025 title, has drawn attention among fans.
The Senegal Football Federation (FSF) explained that production timelines for the kits made it impossible to include an additional star. However, the federation confirmed that updated jerseys featuring a second star are already in production and expected to be available in September.
Senegal had initially defeated Morocco national football team 1-0 in the 2025 AFCON final in January. But in a dramatic twist, Confederation of African Football later overturned the result, awarding the title to Morocco after ruling that Senegal had forfeited the match.
In response to the situation, the FSF released an official statement to address concerns surrounding the newly launched kit, reaffirming the reasons behind the single-star design.
“The Senegalese Football Federation (FSF) wishes to clarify the situation following the reactions to the release of the new national team jerseys, which feature a single star,” a statement from the FSF read.
