Senegalese Federation Issues Official Statement on Mozambique AFCON 2027 Qualifier Moved to Maputo: What Does It Say?

The Senegalese Federation has officially confirmed that the Lions’ 2027 AFCON qualifier on September 25 has been moved from Dakar to Maputo due to stadium availability.

In its official statement, the Senegalese Football Federation (FSF) explains that "this decision is due to two main reasons." Firstly, "The Stade Mᵉ Abdoulaye Wade in Diamniadio is unavailable at this time, as it will be hosting the opening ceremony of the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games." Secondly, "the pitch at the Stade Léopold Sédar Senghor in Dakar is not currently in optimal condition to host an official match of this magnitude for the Senegalese national A team."

The FSF said the relocation was requested to protect the players' health and ensure the match is played under appropriate conditions, avoiding any unnecessary risks. The decision was approved by both the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and the Mozambican Football Federation following a request from the Senegalese federation.

Senegal will therefore travel to Maputo to face Mozambique in their opening AFCON 2027 qualifying fixture on September 25.
