Senegalese defender Moussa Niakhaté pays tribute to Pape Thiaw following Patrick Vieira’s appointment
The Senegalese international was keen to praise the work carried out by the former manager of the Lions of Teranga, in what he describes as a difficult situation.
The Senegal national team has had a new manager since Tuesday 18 August. Patrick Vieira has been officially appointed by the Senegalese Football Federation to lead the Lions of Teranga.
But whilst awaiting Patrick Vieira’s official presentation, Moussa Niakhaté paid tribute to Pape Thiaw, who was sacked after the 2026 FIFA World Cup. In a message posted on social media, the Senegalese international defender acknowledged the achievements of Pape Thiaw, who, in his view, had taken charge of the Senegal national team in a delicate situation.
“A tribute to Pape Thiaw, who took charge of the Senegal national team under difficult circumstances. Under his leadership, we won the Africa Cup of Nations. So, a tribute to him.”
Moussa Niakhaté also extended a message of welcome to the new manager of the Lions of Teranga.
“Welcome to Patrick Vieira.”
