Senegal Win 2026 U17 AFCON Title After Penalty Shootout Victory Over Tanzania

Senegal U17 have been crowned champions of the 2026 U17 Africa Cup of Nations after defeating Tanzania U17 in a tense penalty shootout following a dramatic final.

The final ended 1-1 after normal time, with both teams producing a competitive and evenly matched contest. Tanzania stunned the Young Lions with an opening goal from Hamis Mihambo, putting Senegal under early pressure.

Senegal responded well, finding their way back into the game through Ibrahima Dione, whose equaliser restored balance and forced the match into penalties.

In the shootout, Senegal showed greater composure and accuracy, converting their spot-kicks with confidence while Tanzania were unable to maintain the same level of precision.

The Young Lions eventually sealed a 4-2 win on penalties, securing the U17 AFCON title.
