The Senegalese Football Federation did not wish to renege on its commitment to Peru and Gambia.

Argentina, the reigning world champions, submitted a proposal to the African champions for a friendly match during the March 2026 international break. The Argentine national team wanted the match to be played in Senegal, specifically at the Stade Abdoulaye Wade in Diamniadio, on 31 March 2026.

Shortly afterwards, Spain, the European champions, also sent an invitation to Senegal for an international friendly. This was to be played at the Stade de France during the next FIFA window.

However, the president of the Senegalese Football Federation, Abdoulaye Fall, did not give a favourable response. The Lions of Teranga had already arranged two friendly matches against Peru and Gambia, so it was no longer possible to accept further offers.
