Senegal to Parade AFCON Trophy Ahead of Friendly Against Peru Despite Morocco Being Declared Winners
Senegal are reportedly planning to parade the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) trophy before their friendly against Peru in Paris on Saturday, despite Morocco being officially declared the tournament winners.
In a controversial twist, Morocco were announced as champions of the recent AFCON despite losing the final 1-0 in January. The decision has sparked outrage among Senegalese officials and fans alike.
According to BBC, Senegal plan to showcase the trophy ahead of their match at the Stade de France, signaling their refusal to accept the ruling quietly.
“Faced with what amounts to the most blatant and unprecedented administrative robbery in the history of our sport, the Senegalese Football Federation (FSF) refuses to accept this as inevitable,” FSF president Abdoulaye Fall said during a media conference in Paris.
Earlier, the FSF also posted a schedule on social media for Saturday’s events, confirming that a trophy parade is planned ahead of the friendly against Peru.
