Senegal is improving its team in preparation for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. The most recent update is that they have convinced defender Malick Thiaw to change his national team from Germany to Senegal.

Thiaw, who has played three friendly matches for Germany, can still play for Senegal according to FIFA rules. He is also allowed to play for Finland, his mother's country, but he has chosen to play for Senegal instead.

The 22-year-old player, who can play as a right-back, central defender, or defensive midfielder, has shown his skills at AC Milan. In the 2024-2025 season, he has played 11 games and scored one goal against Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions League.

This move adds a valuable player to Senegal’s defensive options as they chase success in the upcoming World Cup qualifiers.
