Senegal Midfielder Idrissa Gueye Offers to Return AFCON Medals Awarded to Morocco Senegal Midfielder Idrissa Gueye Offers to Return AFCON Medals Awarded to Morocco

enegalese midfielder Idrissa Gueye has expressed his willingness to return the medals awarded to Morocco after the Confederation of African Football (CAF) declared them 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) champions by default.

Speaking after Everton’s 3-0 win over Chelsea, Gueye insisted that Senegal still considers itself the rightful African champion.

“We deserve to be African champions. For us, we are the African champions; nothing changes. This announcement is just a distraction, perhaps an attempt to divide Africa. If it were up to me, I would have told the Federation not to appeal,” he said.

On the matter of the CAF ruling, Gueye added, “I personally pledge to gather the medals and return them to Morocco if that can truly ease tensions between the two countries.”
