Senegal has jumped up in the FIFA rankings for January 2026. Freshly crowned African champions, the Lions of Teranga now occupy 12th place in the world with 1,706.83 points.
This leap, which brings Pape Thiaw's team closer to the world's top 10, confirms Senegal's status as a major African football nation. However, Senegal remains second in the African rankings behind Morocco, which it defeated in the final of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations. Morocco is first in Africa and 10th in the world with 1736.57 points.
Last December, the Senegalese team occupied the same position in Africa with 1,648.07 points, still behind the Atlas Lions.
