Senegal has added a second star to the Teranga Lions’ shirt
Despite the controversial decision by the African Football Confederation’s Appeals Committee, Senegalese football officials remain firm on the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations title.
The standoff between Senegal and CAF has taken a new turn. After officially lodging an appeal with the Court of Arbitration for Sport to overturn CAF’s decision to strip the Lions of Teranga of the title and award it to Morocco’s Atlas Lions, the Senegalese Football Federation has moved to the next stage.
It has unveiled a new national team shirt featuring a second star. This is a bold move coming amid high tensions, marked by threats from Morocco to take legal action against Senegal if it displays the Africa Cup of Nations trophy at the Stade de France on 28 March, during its international friendly against Peru. But by displaying this second star on its shirt, Senegal intends to assert the legitimacy of the title it won on 18 January 2026 in Rabat.
